Understand Your Insurance and the
Collision Repair Process

To get Original Ford Collision Parts rather than the aftermarket, salvage or remanufactured parts an insurer may recommend, it’s key to understand your rights and the repair process.

Start With Your Insurance Policy

Did you know that it’s your right to get only new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts? Or that some insurance companies have parts riders to cover OEM parts? Call your provider and ask these questions:

  • Does my current policy include new OEM parts coverage?
  • Can I add an OEM parts rider to my current policy?
  • If I don’t have OEM parts coverage, is there another policy I can get that covers OEM parts if I’m in a collision?
  • Does that ensure that the parts used to repair my vehicle are new OEM parts?
Insurance coverage varies by provider and by state. If your current provider doesn’t offer OEM parts coverage, shop around. You may be able to find one in your state that does.

Then Learn the Repair Process

It’s important to know that you have choices when it comes to collision repair:

  • You have the right to go to whichever collision center you want.
  • Your insurance can’t force you to go to a specific collision center.
  • You have the right to choose which parts are used to replace damaged parts, so choose new Ford OEM parts.
  • You don’t have to release your vehicle to a collision center before you are ready.
  • You should review your completed estimates and agree to the parts and work listed before starting any repairs.

Collision Assistance

If you’re ever in an accident, the most important thing is to make sure you and anyone else involved are safe. Anything else you need to worry about is covered in Collision Assistance in the FordPass® App.
